Electrolyte H is the scientific duplication of a combination of energy giving body salts together with dextrose, all so necessary to obtain maximum performance from the racing or performance horse.
Natural electrolytes are composed of a wide variety of natural elements, namely sedum, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, carbonate, phosphate and sulphate together with other inorganic compounds such as citrates. The prime function of these fluids is to carry nutrients to the various body tissues, or muscles and to collect waste materials for disposal by the kidneys.
Under normal conditions, electrolytes are taken into the body in the normal daily food intake. At certain times: ie hard training, racing, travel, or during illness the electrolyte requirement is often considerably increased. In these situations the muscle tissue is virtually being starved of the necessary nutrients. Continued peak performance is not possible in such a situation. This is frequently the case when horses in apparent peak condition fail to perform as should be expected.
- With nervous horses. These horses burn up their natural body fluids whenever they sight a horse float, race track, or a starting gate.
- With poor travellers. Horses are often placed under considerable stress when travelling only short distances.
- Slow recoverers. Horse that take 2 pr 3 days to return to form after a hard race.
- llness is always associated with fluid loss and stress.
Because of the varying requirements of every horse, no firm guidelines can be given, suffice to say that every horse will uptake only what he/she needs. Experience must be the only guide.
Electrolyte H can either be added to the horses drinking water, or sprinkled over dampened food at any of the following times:
- 40 grams daily, while the horse is in work.
- 80 grams daily for three days preceding any major race or competition.
- 80 grams with the first and possibly the second drink, after a race.
- 80 grams daily, along with antibiotic treatment
Electrolyte H is packed in three sizes:
- 1.8 Kilo poly pail
- 9 Kilo poly pail
- 18 Kilo poly pail.
Electrolyte H is licensed under the ACVM ACT (1997) No: manufactured under licence in New Zealand by Greyhorse Veterinary (N.Z.) Ltd, for Vitapharm Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd, Melbourne, Australia.
