ORNITHON is a stable, water soluble preparation of the required nutrients suited to the New Zealand and Australian conditions. ORNITHON was developed to provide a basic nutritional insurance against any deficiency in the available feed. This can be brought about wherever feed is produced, be it the vulgarity of the wet or dry seasons, hot or cold weather, rich or poor soil, or even short comings of storage or transport.

bullet-whitebg.jpg History

Ornithon was developed by the Avian Research Laboratories of Inca (Flight) P.L. St Mary’s Australia 2760 It is now prepared in New Zealand by Greyhorse Vet (NZ ) Ltd under licence to this Australian Proprietor. The problems faced by the New Zealand Breeder are identical to those by breeders over in Australia.

The research by Avarian Research began some 28 years ago. It was believed that a common ground for many of the problems being faced by the Australian Breeders, continually endeavouring to improve the performance of their birds, was in the feed their birds were eating. The old adage of “you are what you eat” was thought to be just as relevant for birds as it was for humans. The long established poultry industry had already made great progress in growth rates, feed conversion, and fertility, mainly by carrying out full analysis of their poultry feed, and substituting the missing nutrients wherever necessary. Why should similar results not be obtained for other avian bird species?

To carry out such investigative work, seed samples had to be obtained from the widest range of sources around the country. Each sample was clearly marked and identified, and eventually full analysis was carried out. The brief summary below will serve to illustrate the considerable variance between four common feed types. All the early qualitative work on feed quality was carried out on poultry, where performance ie: weight gains, or egg fertility is easy to monitor. Initially missing nutrients were added to the feed rations. This of course was not possible with avian feed thus a program was developed to be present the required range of minerals and vitamins in a soluble form which could be added to the drinking water. were established. Thus ORNITHON was developed. It contains 20 minerals and vitamins, deficiencies of which have been scientifically diagnosed as the causative problem of major nutritional diseases in aviary birds.
