Pestene is a small farmer dusting powder for the control of lice, fleas and ticks on all farm animals, domestic pets, bedding and buildings. It is available in a 500gram dusting pack. It is a registered Animal Remedy. No. A06746
Active Material: 10g/kg Rotenone and 50g/kg Flowers of Sulphur. Rotenone is a selective, non specific insecticide extracted from various species of the Lonchocarpus plant as found in Peru, South America. Lonchocarpus is a member of the Legume family. It acts as a contact poison on the insects specified. Naturally occurring Sulphur is incorporated with Rotenone to inhibit infection or the irritation often associated with the flea or insect bites.

Poultry and Avarian Birds. Lice and Mites, sprinkle lightly through the feathers, under the wings and around the neck, breast and vent at weekly intervals. Apply liberally to nests and nesting areas. Withholding Period for poultry, do not apply later than one day before slaughtering.
Dogs and Cats and other domesticated Pets: Lice, Fleas and Mites, apply lightly to the coat, particularly around the neck, chest and back. Work in against the hair and comb through the coat. Remove excess powder with a damp cloth. Dust pet after each wash. Apply at weekly intervals. Apply to bedding and kennels and housing areas.
Horses, Calves, Goats and Sheep: Mites and Lice: sprinkle lightly over the body and work into the coat. Apply at weekly intervals.
Do not apply to animals infested with gastro-intestinal parasites or animals with external wounds or broken skin.
Store in a cool dry place. Keep out of reach of children. Wash hands after use.
Ecological Effects: Pestene is highly toxic to fish. Do not allow material to enter waterways. Pestene is however rapidly (in 2-3 days) broken down in contact with soil. Equally activity is lost (in 2-3 days) on exposure to sunlight. Product is non toxic to bees. Pestene is a non-systemic insecticide. It is not absorbed into the animal and/or bird tissue or blood stream. It is therefore safe to use on all pregnant animals, and it is safe to consume the milk, eggs or meat (refer poultry above).
